Common bulk marker cleanup jobs
A producer changes a character name after fifty notes are already in the cut. A QC import includes the same vendor prefix on every marker. A review round must move twelve frames after a slate change. These are structured edits, but Premiere’s marker-by-marker dialog turns them into repetitive work.
Bulk editing is also useful before turnover: normalize marker names, append a department tag, remove an obsolete prefix, or shift only the markers on a particular track.
Select visible marker rows directly
Click a neutral part of a row to select one marker. Command-click on macOS or Ctrl-click on Windows toggles one marker. Shift-click selects the inclusive range from the current anchor, and Command/Ctrl+Shift-click adds that range. Ranges follow the current visible sorted order.
With the MarkerBuddy panel focused, Command+A or Ctrl+A selects every visible marker. Search and filters prune markers that are no longer visible from the selection. Click unused table space below the rows to clear the selection. Delete or Backspace removes the visible selection immediately with MarkerBuddy Undo, except while a text editor, menu, or dialog owns input.
Choose both the action and the scope
Starting a Color, Name, Comments, or Status change on a selected row applies it to every selected marker. Starting from an unselected row changes only that marker and leaves the existing selection intact. A multi-marker update is written as one host operation and one MarkerBuddy undo entry.
Batch Edit actions include Find and Replace with a match-count preview, Append, Prepend, and Remove. Text can target Name, Comments, or Both. Shift TC applies one signed timecode adjustment to the chosen group.
Scope is explicit: current selection, all loaded markers, one color, one status, or one track. This prevents a cleanup intended for V2 notes from silently changing every marker in the active sequence.
The guided window follows Change, Target markers, and Review. Numbered cards separate configuration from scope, the preview remains visible even when an option is incomplete, and every pending change uses a stacked Before and After comparison inside its own scrollable review row. At narrow panel widths, the cards stack without horizontal scrolling while the final action remains visible.
One batch, one undo entry
The complete change is written as one MarkerBuddy operation. If the match text or scope was wrong, the batch can be reversed as a unit. Completed and Skipped marker records remain associated with the edited comments.
MarkerBuddy’s search and filters apply to markers loaded from the active sequence. Review the active sequence and current filter state before a broad operation.
Workflow
A practical four-step process
-
01
Define the target group
Click a row, toggle rows with Command/Ctrl-click, select a range with Shift-click, or use Command/Ctrl+A for every visible marker. Batch Edit can also target a color, status, track, or all loaded markers.
-
02
Choose the action
Find and replace, append, prepend, remove, or shift timecode. Select Name, Comments, or Both for text changes.
-
03
Read the preview count
Confirm how many markers and matches will change before applying the operation.
-
04
Apply and inspect
Commit the batch, spot-check the results, and use the single undo entry if the scope was wrong.
Good fit
Use this workflow for
- Renaming a person, show, version, or department across notes
- Removing vendor prefixes or appending status context
- Shifting a controlled group of marker timecodes
- Editing by color, status, track, or explicit selection
Important limit
What this workflow does not assume
Batch Edit changes markers loaded from the active sequence and the selected scope. It is not a project-wide text replacement across every unopened sequence.
