Why timeline time is not enough
A note at 01:05:12:08 in version three may belong at 01:05:18:02 after a six-second insert. A later deletion can reduce that difference again. Repeated shots can create several plausible destinations, while speed changes and reverse playback alter the source-to-timeline relationship.
Moving every marker by one global offset can appear correct near one edit and still damage notes elsewhere. A safer reconform compares the underlying media context and explains uncertainty.
Review reasons before MarkerBuddy writes
Smart Reconform reads the selected source and target sequences without switching the active timeline. Results are categorized as Exact, Shifted, Ambiguous, Unmatched, or Duplicate and include reasons. Deterministic matches can be approved; uncertain cases remain for editorial judgment.
Changing either sequence or receiving a relevant Premiere change invalidates a stale preview. The Apply action writes only approved rows and reports applied, duplicate, failed, and cancelled items separately.
Conservative handling of difficult timelines
MarkerBuddy can follow ordinary nested sequences to deterministic leaf media. It can discover multicam and nested-multicam candidates, but Premiere does not expose the active angle mapping, so those cases require review rather than an automatic guess.
The applied batch preserves marker details and status where supported, adds source trace, and becomes one MarkerBuddy undo entry on the target sequence. Deep analysis runs only while Smart Reconform is open.
Workflow
A practical four-step process
-
01
Choose both sequences
Select the older marked sequence as Source and the revised edit as Target.
-
02
Let analysis finish
Smart Reconform compares source frames, clip boundaries, neighbors, nesting, speed, and other available context.
-
03
Review every category
Approve deterministic results and inspect Ambiguous, Unmatched, and Duplicate rows instead of forcing a guess.
-
04
Apply the approved batch
Write only approved markers, read the outcome counts, and keep the one-step undo available.
Good fit
Use this workflow for
- Client or QC markers that must survive picture changes
- Cuts with insertions, deletions, trims, or reordered material
- Nested and retimed workflows that need explicit review
- Teams that require reasons and source trace before applying
Important limit
What this workflow does not assume
Smart Reconform is conservative. It does not guess active multicam angles or force a marker onto a merely plausible time. Ambiguous, unmatched, reversed, missing, or unsupported cases can require manual decisions.
