How to import Frame.io comments into Adobe Premiere markers

When an exported Frame.io review still matters

The current Frame.io panel can show comments in Premiere, but an exported review is useful when a team needs an archive, receives comments from another account, works from a locked delivery package, or wants to label one feedback round consistently. An export also gives the editor a stable snapshot even if the online review changes later.

The difficult part is turning that snapshot into useful timeline markers without flattening multiline notes, losing replies, or mixing the new round with older feedback.

Import the review as a named marker round

The Add notes page lists Frame.io JSON, CSV, and TXT support and separates Choose a File… from the labeled Paste notes box. It reports the detected format, note count, and timing warnings while the timeline remains unchanged. Choosing an ordinary Frame.io notes file opens Review automatically; pasting exported text keeps the explicit Review n Notes button.

Review shows Total, Included, Ready, and Attention counts before the source-ordered notes. Use shared settings for the review round's timecode offset, destination, color, marker name, and optional original-timecode suffix. Correct any individual note that needs an exception; preserved multiline comments remain editable, and Options → Reset this note restores the imported values.

A missing, invalid, or out-of-range timecode stays in source order until corrected or excluded. Use All, Needs attention, Ready, and Excluded filters or Review next issue to find it, and read the exact disabled-Import reason in the persistent footer.

Choose Merge two notes to start a mode separate from Include. A compact instruction card wraps its two-line guidance without stretching across Review. Each high-contrast Select for merge control appears at the far left of the note header before Include. Selected controls change to Merge note n, and after two selections the remaining controls become visibly locked. After selecting the first and second included note, preview their comments in source order. If both have usable timecodes, choose which one to keep; if exactly one does, MarkerBuddy keeps it automatically; if neither does, enter a valid timecode in the merge dialog. Cancel changes nothing. A zero-row selection stays disabled, and Back to Notes returns without writing markers.

Manage comments after the import

After import, search the text, filter the round, edit names and comments in a spreadsheet-style table, and mark work Completed or Skipped. Exports retain the status record, which makes the same marker set useful for producer reports and turnover files.

Import n Markers creates only the approved rows as one local, undoable operation. MarkerBuddy does not sign into Frame.io or modify the online review; it works with the export the editor explicitly selects.

Workflow

A practical four-step process

   Export the review

   Download the relevant Frame.io comments as JSON, CSV, or TXT and keep the export as the source record.

2. 02

   Check parsing

   Load the file and confirm its detected format, comments, replies, timecodes, and note count.

3. 03

   Correct and approve

   The imported file opens Review automatically. Confirm shared settings, edit each visible destination and marker color as needed, use the status filters to correct or exclude unresolved timing, and enter Merge two notes only for comments that belong together.

4. 04

   Import and resolve

   Click Import n Markers to create the approved subset, then work through it in Premiere and use status filters to see what remains.
